Among few lucky ones who got into Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited for my mandatory internship the only thing I am not liking about that place is it's located @ Landhi and unfortunately there's no office transport available for internees.
Coming back from work on Friday evening, 1st July 2011, I was loving the fact that it is Friday and the weekend is on. Already in my mind planning things to do over weekend. After crossing Landhi and entering into Sharah-e-Faisal, I met one of the worst incident (accident + drama) of my life. I was driving on the fast lane with an average speed of 75-80/Kmh & as I crossed Makro I saw a gray Margalla driven by a psychotic Pathan driver on the center lane rushing very fast - within few seconds I saw him cutting his car intentionally towards the fast lane and bashed into a black corolla. Margalla hit black corolla, followed by another car (can't remember whch car was it), followed by a white Baleno, followed by my car (santro), followed by another corolla. My head hit the windscreen of my car but thankfully only a slight bruise.
I came out of my car and saw that the Pathan driver actually hit 2 guys on a motorcycle and without any doubts he intended to kill those two guys. Both men on motor-cycle tried to run for their lives but one of them got caught - the Pathan driver started abusing him, beating the shit out of him and shouting "Nikaal apni TT (pistol) - Khuda ki kassam ajj tujhe zinda nahi choroonga" I knew something is wrong and I quickly got back into my car along with a friend & decided to get out of that place - but my car didn't start. I came out of my car and confronted the Pathan "kya hogaya bhai - tum ko nazar nahi araha ke 5 gaariyan lag gayee tumhari wajah se" he said I was driving when these two men showed me TT and tried to snatched things from me "yeh saaley mujhe jaantey nahi hain ajj main inko zinda nahi choroonga".
In a matter of few mins the cops arrived - after taking statement from Margalla's driver he came to me and asked me what happened - I told him the whole story. The cops insisted me to resolve the matter on spot and don't take the case to police (how ridiculous it can get- when police actually saying not to take the case to them). I told them that I don't have any issue going to police station but I need a justification for this act. After a long debate I made the officer M. Hanif speak to my father who works for Dawn Newspaper - meanwhile I saw the weirdest thing The margalla driver after speaking to cops agreed to resolve the matter right there and hugged the motorcycle guy, to whom he intended to kill 20 mins back and left from the spot.
A minute later, the second police officer, Khattar Khan, came to me and said "app ne Baleno ko maara - lekin uss ke driver ne app ko maaf kar diya". He couldn't have annoyed me any more at that time - I asked him "kaunsi maafi? maine koi maafi maangi jo mujhe maaf kar raha hai woh?" I went to that driver and asked the innocent guy what is going on? he said "Beta maine inko kuch nahi bola - in fact yeh mujhe bol rahey hain ke app ki gaari meri wajah se laggi and I should pay for your damages". The cops were playing the game - the original culprit was set free to go - and the innocent ones were stuck with it. After a heated argument everybody let go the issue. 3 guys came for the rescue of those 2 street-crimers and they left too. It appeared to me that both the margalla guy and street crimers were affiliated to different political parties and both of them were confident that even if they'll kill anyone they will easily get away.
Honestly speaking, I don't know how I came out scratch-less of such big hit but I am losing all my patriotism and love for this country. This place is turning into a jungle with every passing day. There is no law & order - police is hopeless. Every morning when I leave for work I am not sure if I'll reach home in the evening safely or no. I have to take longer routes because the shorter one are not safe either. Kidnapping & street crime is at its peak and the only solution I see is that its about time when everyone should keep a pistol with them for security. Because clearly there's nobody in this country who is concerned for your security.
First off thank God you were left safe and sound amidst all this.
ReplyDeleteI really do not blame the action of the institutions(Police, Government for that matter). All the innocent ones really want is to STAY OUT OF IT. well the injustices will only grow over time with this innocence(invisibility) cloak. UNITE AND TAKE A STAND AGAINST ALL POLITICAL PARTIES TILL THEY PASS LEGISLATURE ON GUNS FREE PAKISTAN starting from karachi. And those found with a gun to be shot in the head with the same gun if proven they held it illegally. 5 people on a highly conservative average die in karachi due to said. God if we dont stand today then WE DESERVE TO BE IN THE 5 tomorrow
As far as you looking to hold a gun, u dont stand a chance unless u political party affiliated.once u get anyone on the basis of that GUN u will go to prison before him. Moreover u holding a gun is just as bad as the wrong guys who hold it,
Very well written for sure. But you just said what I was thinking. This country is turning into a deep jungle where only stronger (By Stronger i mean people with political influence, Armoury etc) rule, while no consideration for weak. Should this be the state of the people of this country, who we believe that once it will be a great nation. huh! .. I don't think so. With every passing day Situation is going worse and I don't see any improvements for further 10 years.
ReplyDeleteLets just pray that things go well.
